Congratulations to everyone who was admitted. I hope to see all of you next fall.

I wonder if there is a blog for rejected transfer students...

That would be at

You are thinking correctly.

Nobody has been admitted yet.

Friday is the day.

I guess I can post here.

Wooooo : )

Congratulations, everyone!

Do you know when Finaid folks can expect notification of their award?

At 4:56 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

And credit evaluations. Those are almost more important.

At 11:09 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Can we assume that our reply date is not, in fact, May 1 (as stated in the email and current thick-envelope page for transfer students)? This seems insane, even for UChicago :-). June 1, yes?

At 1:39 PM, Blogger Gerald Doyle said...

Yes, June 1st is the Reply Date for transfers.

I wonder if there's any truth to the fact that Chicago is notorious for setting you back at least a year by rejecting transfer credit.

At 6:22 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Are we going to recieve our credit evaluations before having to make a decision? I don't want to accept the offer of admission and then later find out that I have to take another year of college.

At 6:24 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

ditto that last post.

Yes, you will have a transcript evaluation before you decide.

+ I'm not sure that Chicago is any more rigorous than other institutions with regard to awarding credit.

+ A bit of advice, be sure to keep/obtain copies of course syllabi; these are helpful in the evaluation of credit and placement.

ontrary to all reasonable expectations, UChicago accepted me. I'm still in disbelief, but I think it's very likely I'll be turning up in Hyde Park this fall (still waiting on a few things, and I need to visit campus).

My current school gets out May 12, and I'll be skipping off to Chicago shortly thereafter. Any other thick-envelopers planning a trip around then?

School finishes on the 12th, and I leave for Houston on the 13th. My family is planning a roadtrip on the 14th or 15th to Chicago. We will also drive to Washington to pick up my stuff if I decide to attend : ))

So are transfer students required to live in the dorms their first year or can I decide to live in an apartment if that's what I want to do?

At 9:00 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I will be visiting the UChicago campus (and the city) from this Sunday, May 7 until Thursday, May 11.

If you're planning to visit the campus on any of the same days, please shoot me an e-mail.

Neil: where in Houston are you from? I grew up in Clear Lake.

At 9:36 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

According to the housing websight, you don't have to live in the dorms. I don't intend to because I don't go home for summers of most breaks. Just out of curriosity, how many of you are planning to live in the dorms? Am I in a lonely minority?

"Neil: where in Houston are you from? I grew up in Clear Lake."

I am from Sugar Land.

I'm a cooking fanatic, so I'm looking for a place with a nice kitchen, whether on campus or off.

kirsten,

Which school are you currently attending?

At 11:16 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Brazosport College in Lake Jackson.

At 4:07 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I plan to live off campus.

At 7:05 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I just confirmed. I'm shaking. That moment right after your toes leave the high-dive for the first time.

Do transfers have to submit year-end reports?

At 8:16 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

You confirmed what?

And yes, transferring anywhere will make you have to submit a final transcript after the year is over.

are there going to be any open houses or overnight stay programs for admitted transfer students?

At 4:40 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Anyone know if there is cable in all the dorm buildings?

At 3:01 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

When is anyone expecting these lauded "information packets", as well as the info about housing, transfer credit evaluations, and financial aid awards?

At 3:54 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Well, many EA transfer applicants are still awaiting their decision emails (don't forget, we only got the good news through a so-called 'accident'). So it looks like the admissions office is really scrambling right now.

With that in mind, I wouldn't wait for the information in dead-tree form. Log into the thick envelope on the official site and start poking around for information there. Everything's there - dorms, food, policies, slogans, speeches, myths - it just takes a little looking. You can even reply to the offer of admission online.

At 7:15 PM, Blogger Bottom-Law-Schools said...

This is the message I am presented with when I log onto thickenvelope:

"The May 1, 2006 deadline to reply to your offer of admission to the University of Chicago has passed. The Office of College Admissions is no longer accepting tuition deposits for the Class of 2010, and the “Reply Online” section of the ThickEnvelope site has closed. If you mailed in paper forms, you can continue to access this site and we will process your information as it arrives."

About Thickenvelope from jerry:

There's no version for transfer students this year....that
functionality will arrive next year.

Admitted To Chicago…speechless

- email just now -

At 3:19 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

ok so I might be going around the 14th to 17th afterall.

At 3:25 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I just got admitted, and I must say that it is the greatest feeling ever! I cannot believe the opportunities I now have before me!

At 3:34 PM, Blogger Bottom-Law-Schools said...

I actually might be visiting around the 25th.

At 9:43 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Approximately how many students out of the 250 were admitted EA?

At 2:08 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Sorry to bother you, but when can we expect financial aid information and credit evaluations?

thanks.

At 2:13 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

From the admission packet:
Credit eval 1 week from admission packet
FinAid 2-3 weeks from admission packet

My question is that I think I need to call and change my address, since I am moving home from college in a week and a day.

At 3:51 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Is there a way that we can come and spend night on campus or attend a class? perhaps some time later this month?

At 10:32 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

There are no overnights for transfers according to the UC web site.

At 4:07 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I'm going to be visiting around the 17th and will be staying for about 2 days, so if anyone else will be around on those dates, I'd love to hear from you.

I'm so on the fence about whether or not I want to accept the offer of admission or not--it seems like I'm the only indecisive one.

At 5:52 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I stayed overnight in Febraury, so it ought to be possible. Call and ask to be sure.

I'm not sure if I'm going to accept the offer either--although Chicago is my first choice, everything depends on financial aid.

At 7:26 PM, Blogger Bottom-Law-Schools said...

I am more on the fringe regarding credits and getting to know my new professors.

At 8:39 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Are all the admitted students here EA's or Regular Decision Applicants?

At 8:51 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I'm EA.

At 2:21 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

3 weeks from now would be pretty close to June 1st for the Financial aid package.
